Westleigh Wonder - Neutral Bay

For this Neutral Bay top floor apartment, our clients wanted their home to feel calm, relaxed and distinctly Mediterranean—a peaceful retreat from the city while still embracing the incredible urban views surrounding it.

The original apartment was quite poky, with a disconnected layout that didn’t make sense for the way the family wanted to live. We completely reconfigured the interiors to create a more open-plan and functional home, improving the flow between spaces and making the apartment feel significantly larger, lighter and more connected.

One of the biggest opportunities was directly in front of the living area, where an existing solid wall was blocking what could be an incredible outlook. We introduced a new window in its place, opening the living space directly to views of the city that had previously been completely hidden. Not only did this bring more natural light into the apartment, it completely changed the experience of the living area and added significant value to the home by capturing a view that had always been there but never utilised.

The clients wanted the interiors to have a calming Mediterranean feel, so blue became a defining element throughout the home. Chosen for its sense of tranquillity and connection to the colours of the Mediterranean, we paired different shades of blue with crisp whites, natural textures and warm metallic details to create spaces that feel fresh, relaxed and inviting.

In the kitchen, Italian blue and grey patterned tiles bring personality and character, while gold tapware and handles add warmth and a subtle sense of luxury. We continued the blue palette throughout the home to create a sense of continuity, including a rich teal carpet in the study that makes the space feel cosy and inviting.

The existing apartment also presented us with some unexpected challenges. The external balcony sat at a higher level than the internal floor, which would have created an awkward step within the newly connected living spaces. To resolve this, we introduced a new internal floor level, concealing the change in height and creating a seamless transition between the kitchen and living areas.

Low existing ceiling heights also required careful consideration and an alternative performance solution. We worked within these constraints to find solutions that maintained the openness, functionality and relaxed feeling our clients wanted.

Ultimately, Westleigh Wonder was about unlocking the potential that was already there. By completely rethinking the internal layout, opening the home to a previously hidden city view and introducing a calming Mediterranean palette, we created a home that feels more spacious, functional and connected, while still being full of personality.
