Lantern House, Kingsford

The Lantern House – A Contemporary Family Oasis

For this knock down and rebuild in Kingsford, our clients wanted a contemporary family home that felt luxurious, but was still designed around the realities of family life and how they wanted to use the home every day.

One of their biggest priorities was keeping a large, open backyard where the kids could run around and play. Rather than allowing the pool to take over the rear garden, we positioned it along the side of the house. This allowed us to preserve the backyard while also turning the pool into a feature of the architecture. We introduced expansive glazing along this side of the home so that, as soon as you walk through the front door, your eye is drawn directly through the house to the pool beyond.

Upstairs, the clients wanted their master suite to feel like a true retreat. Rather than separating the ensuite from the bedroom, they wanted the two spaces to flow together, creating a more open and luxurious experience. We designed the ensuite around a beautiful freestanding bath and added a chandelier to bring that extra sense of indulgence and personality they were looking for. A custom walk-in wardrobe completes the suite, with plenty of storage designed specifically around their needs.

Throughout the rest of the home, we focused on creating generous, light-filled spaces that felt connected rather than compartmentalised. Large areas of glazing bring natural light deep into the interiors and strengthen the relationship with the garden and pool, while the statement staircase creates a beautiful architectural moment at the centre of the home.

Ultimately, this home was designed around this particular family: giving the children space to play, creating beautiful areas for everyone to come together, and giving the parents their own luxurious retreat at the end of the day.
